A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to insist that Japhet Tanganga has to come back into the side’s starting lineup this weekend after missing Wednesday’s defeat to RB Leipzig.
Jose Mourinho’s men will have to overturn a one-goal deficit when they travel to Germany next month.
In truth, Spurs were largely grateful to Hugo Lloris for producing a number of impressive saves. But he was unable to keep the winner out of the back of the net as Timo Werner converted a penalty during the second-half.
The penalty was awarded after a poor challenge from Ben Davies. And the foul appears to have prompted a number of Spurs fans to implore Mourinho to pick Tanganga against Chelsea this weekend.
Tanganga has been a revelation since bursting into Tottenham’s first-team. His best position is supposed to be centre-back, and yet, he has impressed at both right and left-back since making his debut.
However, he has been an unused substitute for Spurs’ last two games, with Davies returning from injury.
But with Davies making the error on Wednesday, while Serge Aurier seemed to struggle on the other flank, some believe that Mourinho has to reinstate Tanganga at full-back at Stamford Bridge.
With Tottenham’s squad stretched in midweek, it would be no surprise to see changes made. And it is clear that one of the changes plenty of fans want to see involves the 20-year-old.
Here is what some of the fans are saying about Tanganga ahead of the trip to Chelsea…
If we’re gonna play defensive on Saturday I beg Tanganga starts ahead of Aurier or Davies, he’s so clear as a 1v1 defender

I beg Tanganga comes in for Aurier as well

Tanganga is becoming our most vital defender
We’ve conceded 27 goals in 21 games under José. Japhet’s played 6 times, conceding just 5 goals. Including starts vs both Liverpool & City
Japhet HAS to start vs Chelsea & he could be the difference in the 2nd leg vs Leipzig⚪️🔵 pic.twitter.com/D5Jm4Fu6SA

He needs to start every game tbh

Saturday is the perfect time to throw Chelsea a curveball like he did with Liverpool. (Tanganga) We need freshness and energy and guys that know how big this game is. I would LOVE it if Skipp, Tanganga, Parrott and Lamela start. At least 2 of them #THFC

I would drop Aurier. Was poor last night and against Villa and our defence is just better with Tanganga in it.
