Tottenham travel to Stoke City on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have urged manager Jose Mourinho to stick with first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in net.

Spurs are hopeful that this season they can end their long trophy drought, as they’ve not won silverware since the League Cup back in 2008.

The North London club visit Championship outfit Stoke in midweek for the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with Brentford and Manchester City already through as two of the semi-finalists.

Stoke are sat seventh in the Championship table just outside the play-offs on goal difference and will fancy themselves to cause an upset, especially after knocking out Aston Villa earlier in the competition.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media believe they can’t afford to take Stoke lightly and want to see their World Cup winning captain start.

Lloris, 33, has made way at times this season in cup competitions to his understudy Joe Hart, but it’ll be interesting to see who Mourinho goes with in a fixture at Stoke that means a lot to fans.

There are a host of fixtures still to play during the Christmas period, but arguably the goalkeeper position is the one there is no need to rotate for rest.

Here are some Spurs fans discussing £100,000-a-week star (Spotrac) Lloris:
