Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to face Manchester City in arguably their most important game of the season – and some Spurs fans want Fernando Llorente to lead their attack.
With Harry Kane injured, Mauricio Pochettino has a decision to make when picking who to start up front. His options include Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Llorente and at a stretch, Vincent Janssen.
Spurs used a 3-5-2 system on Saturday against Huddersfield and it blew the already-relegated side away. Brazil international Moura scored a hat-trick, while Llorente played a key part in connecting attack and midfield.
Son was rested and after scoring 18 goals this season – including the winner against City in the first leg – he is expected to start. But whether he plays out wide or as a striker remains to be seen.
Spurs have a 1-0 advantage thanks to the first leg, and it remains to be seen how Pochettino wants to play at the Etihad. Does he get in City’s faces with a high tempo? Or sit back and let City come on to them, but remain solid.
Starting Llorente is likely to see Spurs do the latter. Getting in City’s face will leave gaps, but remaining solid and looking to frustrate City may work. Llorente is less likely to go chasing, meaning he is more suited to the latter tactic.
He has scored seven goals this season in 27 outings as Kane’s back-up and remains an aerial threat from set-pieces. So, Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to suggest the 2010 World Cup winner starts. It would be only his ninth start of the season.
It’s harsh on Moura off the back of a hat trick but Llorente has to start. Moura is a great option off the bench later in the game.

Without Winks, our ability to play when pressed becomes far weaker. Even with him, Poch kept a physical presence up top in the last leg, getting Dele to play there. We have to be able to play in a direct style. I'd start Llorente, then get Lucas on later in the game.

Llorente should start

I’d start Llorente for the factor. We are going to pinned for most of the night so he needs to hold up play

I personally would start llorente , he looked decent during the weekend and was involved more in the build play and considering how our long ball tactic caused city problems , llorente could be a decent option.

Does he deserve a start? Yes. But I think I’d start Llorente and Son and put Moura in the second half when City is tired to hit them on the counter.
