Tottenham fans on Twitter: How did they react to deadline day?

In many ways, this season’s summer deadline day went like many before it.

Amid almost unbearable hype, a number of huge deals ultimately failed to materialise while the amount of money spent grew to increasingly obscene levels. Even Harry Redknapp was able to produce a vintage deadline day performance, singing four players while narrowly missing out on former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.

Tottenham also enjoyed a typically lively deadline day, with chairman Daniel Levy living up to his deserved reputation for completing frantic, last-minute deals. However, the club’s fans seemed happy with this years’ efforts, with many revelling in the prospect of adding some new players to the squad while trying desperately to work out who would come in.

There was also much mirth as Spurs did battle with their old rivals Chelsea for the signature of Swansea striker Fernando Llorente and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley. The former ultimately agreed a £15 million deal with Tottenham, and, while Barkley remained at Everton, there were rumours that he had decided against joining Chelsea, despite having a medical at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs also completed the protracted signing of PSG full-back Serge Aurier, although images of him wearing an Arsenal shirt and professing his love for the Gunners will not have gone down well. Unfortunately for Aurier, the Internet never forgets, and neither to do Spurs fans!

And finally, there is still no love lost for last years’ deadline day buy Moussa Sissoko, who will remain at the club despite rumours hinting at his imminent departure. This is a common theme among Spurs fans, who are always quick to troll their £30 million man!
