Paulo Dybala provided the difference on Monday night as Juventus stretched their lead at the top of Serie A to four points with a 2-0 win over Bologna – and Tottenham supporters reacted to his goal on Twitter.
Dybala, 26, has been in excellent form for Juventus once again this season – having a hand in 26 goals during his 37 league and cup appearances. He netted his 14th of the season with an excellent curling effort.
Picking up the ball around 20 yards out after a neat flick from Federico Bernardeschi, Dybala quickly turned and found the top corner, doubling Juventus’ lead after Cristiano Ronaldo had scored from the penalty spot.
It could have all been so different. The Independent claimed that Tottenham came within an inch of landing the former Palermo star last summer, only for image rights to scupper a deal – with a third party owning Dybala’s rights.
Spurs had beaten competition from the likes of Manchester United, who suggested a swap for Romelu Lukaku. Spurs were even ready to cover Dybala’s £350,000-a-week wages – though they may have been reduced somewhat.
However, Dybala has continued to shine for Juventus while Tottenham languish well outside of the Champions League places. Spurs supporters caught wind of his goal for Juve, and many reacted on Twitter.
