Tottenham fans slate Eric Dier’s 45-minute performance in 2-0 loss against Chelsea

Eric Dier appears to be the ideal physical holding midfielder for Jose Mourinho, but the Portuguese has been unable to coax much improvement out of him during his Tottenham reign thus far.

The 25-year-old has anchored Mourinho’s midfield as the former Chelsea boss looks for a more robust approach, but his lack of pace has been repeatedly exposed.

That was the case again in the match with Chelsea yesterday, where Spurs were dominated throughout and Dier was hooked off at half time in a 2-0 home defeat.

It was the second time Dier had been hooked with Spurs 2-0 down at home under Mourinho, following the even earlier substitution against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

There were no shortage of Tottenham fans queuing up to slate the Englishman’s contribution once again, with plenty of criticism coming his way.

Dier has been out for a long time and looks nowhere near fit, especially when compared to Chelsea’s high energy midfield which ran the show yesterday.

He might have hoped to make a late burst to get back into England’s squad in time for Euro 2020, but Dier will have to improve drastically to make that a reality as Tottenham seek to dust themselves down from this latest setback.
