Tottenham fans show support for defender Juan Foyth

Juan Foyth has claimed that he believes he can improve next season – and some Tottenham fans on Twitter have shown support for their defender.

Spurs signed the centre-back in 2017 for £8million (BBC) and he’s become a member of the first-team squad.

The Argentina international made 17 senior appearances across all competitions last season and was guilty of some inconsistent form.

He is a 21-year-old rising talent that is highly rated by manager Mauricio Pochettino, but has some senior teammates ahead of him in the pecking order.

Foyth has found himself behind the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez for a regular starting position, but may nail down the spot in the future.

“Every player has to improve and try to be a better player so I hope I’m a better player today – but I’m not the one who has to say that,” Foyth said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“I think it was a good season, I played more games through the year against good rivals and I enjoyed the games. I think I can do a lot better, I made some mistakes that I cannot make again but I think in general the season was positive.”

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media have offered their encouragement to Foyth and believe he still has immense potential.

The youngster was let down by some individual errors at times in the last year, but is still a defender with a decent range of passing and he’s calm in possession.

He looks like a lesser version of Alderweireld and he’s someone that he should look to mould his game on.
