Tottenham fans respond to Toby Alderweireld on Twitter

Toby Alderweireld has posted a picture of himself linking up with Belgium for the international break – and some Tottenham fans have responded on Twitter with some negative comments.

The 30-year-old’s current deal with Spurs expires at the end of the season and as it stands he would leave on a free transfer next summer.

He’s a defender that has been a top-class player for a number of years with the North London club and is still an ever-present in Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

But the centre-back has seen his individuals drop slightly in the past year and the same can be said for his teammates.

Alderweireld has joined Belgium for European Championship qualifiers against Russia and Cyprus.

He posted on Twitter “it’s good to be back” and has received a wave of criticism in response from Spurs supporters.

There is a feeling that his time at Spurs is ending on a sour note and he’s part a team that are underperforming in 14th in the Premier League table right now.

His commitment to the club has been called into question on multiple occasions considering an exit looks on the cards and fans are bitter that he is delighted to link up with his international squad.
