Ex-Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has commented on the legacy he left behind at the club – and some Spurs fans on Twitter have delivered a somewhat surprising response by claiming his failure to win a title overshadowed his reign.
The Argentine was a hugely popular figure during his time in charge at Spurs and joined them back in 2014.
He was unable to win silverware at the North London club, but was in charge during the move to the new stadium and also helped them to a Champions League final last season.
His side were top four regulars in the Premier League too, but ultimately he was dismissed earlier this campaign and replaced by Jose Mourinho.
Pochettino has been reflecting on his time at Spurs and is adamant he’s “very proud” of his achievements.
“Of course I feel very proud about everything I achieved at Tottenham and when I analyse my time there, plenty of positive things happened,” Pochettino said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“I feel very proud with the success that we had and to take Tottenham to a different level.
“To play in the Champions League for three or four years and finish above Arsenal many times was a great legacy for us. To win a title would be a great reward but for us that is the legacy, to have the club and the stadium at Tottenham. That is more than winning titles.”
A selection of Spurs supporters on social media have taken a slight dig at their former manager for his comments and believe that ultimately he needed to win a trophy.
There is always going to be the mark against Pochettino when it comes to the trophy count, but the club catapulted itself into one of the recognised top teams in the Premier League during the space of a few years and have the likes of Harry Kane plus Dele Alli to continue his legacy.
Here are some Spurs fans responding to Pochettino:
Would love a trophy over all that though mate

It’s not really hate going against Poch but finishing above Arsenal is not a legacy and just playing in the UCL is only good for The owners the fans want Success Silverware

We had nothing left in the tank after that semi final game, we should have won the final but lacked that killer instinct – this is the difference in my view with Jose. Time will tell but we need to develop a hardness about how we play.

Oh good lord. No wonder we didn’t win anything under him. Could’ve won the league and champions league but he’s proud that we finished above them?

I love Poch but “look at our stadium though” & “the training ground is the best in the world” is wearing thin.

He’s gotta change that attitude about trophies if he wants to survive past 18 months in any other elite club.

That last sentence sums up his reign as Spurs boss. Nothing is more important than winning titles. Could you imagine Mourinho saying having a lovely stadium is more important than titles – no me neither!!

Nah, a trophy would have been better

More than winning titles no wonder the guy has never won anything

I love the man but winning titles is more important than the stadium
