Ex-Tottenham attacker Marcus Edwards has explained that he wish he had played more in a Spurs shirt – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by urging him to rejoin them.
The 21-year-old previously came through the academy system at Spurs and was on the fringes of the first-team squad under former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
He managed to make one senior appearance for the north London club back in 2016, but he had to move away in pursuit of regular first-team action.
The right-winger joined Portuguese top-flight club Vitoria at the start of the 2019/20 season and has had an influential debut campaign for them.
Edwards made 36 appearances across all competitions for the Liga NOS side, scoring nine goals and supplying nine assists in return.
The English speedster has explained in a recent interview that he wanted to play more for boyhood club Spurs.
“There was a period where I was really close to getting into the team and then I ended up getting injured. I was out for like six or seven months, but that happens,” Edwards told iNews.
“Obviously, I wanted to play for Tottenham more times than I did because that’s my childhood club, but I don’t dwell on it. I just move on.”
Edwards was dubbed a special talent when he was coming through the youth system at Spurs, but it never quite happened for him there and he’s currently making a name for himself in Portugal.
Portuguese website Guimaraes Digital claimed back in June that Spurs and Manchester United were potentially interested in signing the youngster, who is valued between £18million and £22.5million.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing Edwards and they would love to see him back at the club in the future:
I’d have him back, dropped a ball letting him go! He looks really talented, should of just loaned him with a team that guarantees him some games.
