Tottenham fans reply to £15m loanee's Tweet, after bizarre Sunday moment

Pape Matar Sarr scored his first goal of the season for loan side Metz on Sunday afternoon, and posted on Twitter afterwards. Tottenham fans have responded, after hearing the midfielder had scored.

Sarr, 19, joined Tottenham for a permanent fee of £14.5million (Mail) in the summer. It comes after scoring four goals in 25 appearances for Metz last season – and becoming a Senegal international.

Fabio Paratici chose to spend the best part of £15million to sign Sarr in the last window. Tottenham chose to allow Sarr to return on loan to Metz for the 2021-22 season, in order to gain first-team game time.

He has since featured in all 18 Ligue 1 matches this season – starting 13 of those. Spurs have been left with Harry Winks, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp as options in the middle of the park.

Despite his four goals last season, Sarr was yet to score for Metz this time around. But on Sunday, he got his first goal – albeit a clearance was kicked against Sarr, and into the back of the net. He posted on Twitter.

His Tweet is translated as: “A victory which does a lot of good in the minds and in the hearts. Thank you to the supporters for the support, we will not let go.”

What are Tottenham fans saying in response to Metz midfielder Sarr?

Under Antonio Conte, Spurs are lacking in midfield options. The likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Gio Lo Celso are too attacking to play in the middle of the park – especially in the Italian’s 3-4-3 system.

With Spurs still hanging by a thread as part of the Conference League and still potentially in with a chance of European football after Christmas, they need cover. Spurs are still in the Carabao Cup.

So, midfield cover is needed and there is little point in going out in January, and signing a new central midfielder – given Sarr is on the books. Tottenham fans have reacted to Sarr’s post, with some requesting a January return.
