Tottenham fans reckon their club have sold Marcus Edwards too early after another goal

Marcus Edwards scored his fourth goal of the season for Portuguese side Vitoria on Saturday as his side earned a 2-2 draw against Gil Vicente away from home – and Spurs fans have reacted by claiming their side let Edwards go too early.

Back in September 2016, an 18-year-old Edwards was likened to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi by then manager Mauricio Pochettino in an interview with Sky Sports. Fast forward almost three years, and that likeness is world away.

Just one senior appearance for Spurs followed, as well as only one outing for Norwich during a loan spell. A disappointing loan period in the Netherlands with Excelsior was next, where he scored just two goals in 28 appearances.

In the summer, Edwards was allowed to join Portuguese top-tier side Vitoria – who faced Arsenal in the Europa League this season. Edwards has since impressed, scoring against The Gunners at The Emirates.

In 16 appearances for Vitoria, the England youth international has had a hand in eight goals – scoring four and creating four. He made it two in two on Saturday, with an excellent effort against Vicente (above).

Tottenham fans reacted to the news that Edwards had scored again for his new side, and many believe that they let the academy product leave the club too early – without giving him the chance to ralise his potential in a Spurs shirt.

Some Spurs fans would even consider bringing him back, if he continues to improve.
