Tottenham fans react to their reported Anthony Martial interest

Tottenham have been linked with Manchester United forward Anthony Martial – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded extremely negatively to the transfer speculation.

The Daily Mail claims that Spurs scouts have identified 25-year-old Martial as someone that could be used in a part-exchange for Harry Kane.

It is understood that Spurs centre-forward Harry Kane is planning to leave his club in the summer and Man United are believed to be interested in his signature, along with Manchester City and Chelsea. Martial has been named as someone that Spurs may try to sign if Man United’s interest in Kane is genuine.

Martial, who is currently sidelined through injury, is someone that has the versatility to play centrally or from the left wing.

The skilful attacker has seven goals and nine assists across all competitions this season, which like most, doesn’t quite stack up the kind of staggering numbers Kane has produced at Spurs.

Pundit and ex-Spurs star Gary Lineker previously raved about Martial earlier on his Old Trafford career.

“I like Martial a lot…” Lineker said in 2017.

“To have two young players like Martial and [Marcus] Rashford developing at United at the same time – two of the best young players in the world – is a wonderful situation for [Jose] Mourinho to have.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are not convinced that Man United’s speedster is at the level required to be a direct replacement for Kane.

The Frenchman is capable of the spectacular with the ball at his feet and around the final third, but can be guilty of ghosting through games as well without very little impact.

There are plenty in the fanbase dreading what will happen if they do lose Kane this summer.
