Tottenham sold highly-rated star Tashan Oakley-Boothe late on Friday’s deadline day for the January transfer window – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are not pleased with the business.
Spurs confirmed (official website) that the 19-year-old completed a move to Championship side Stoke City on a permanent basis and he’s signed a three-and-a-half year deal with them.
He is a product of the Spurs academy that managed one first-team appearance for the North London club, but has now moved elsewhere to go in search of his big senior breakthrough.
The midfielder was part of an England side that won the Under-17s World Cup back in 2017, which includes the likes of Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
Oakley-Boothe hasn’t quite managed to kick on like some of his England teammates and he’s been nowhere near the senior scene this season.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has sanctioned the permanent sale of the central midfielder and he could turn out to be a great under the radar addition for Stoke if he fulfils his potential.
A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are surprised that they have allowed Oakley-Boothe to depart in the closing stages of January and were convinced he had a big future ahead of him with them.
Here are some Spurs fans on Oakley-Boothe:
