Tottenham fans react to Steven Bergwijn performance against Aston Villa

Tottenham suffered defeat at home to Aston Villa on Wednesday evening – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did at least name Steven Bergwijn as one positive for them.

Spurs, who were playing their final home game of the Premier League season in front of fans, were beaten 2-1 against Villa.

Bergwijn put the north London hosts ahead with a thunderous effort in the 8th minute. However, his side collapsed afterwards in the first half.

Sergio Reguilon netted a comical own goal in the 20th minute, before Ollie Watkins capitalised before half time to score what turned out to be the match-winner.

The result means interim boss Ryan Mason will take his side to Leicester City on the final game of the season this weekend, and there is a chance they could drop out of the European positions if results go against them.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media felt that Bergwijn did at least provide a spark for them.

The 23-year-old Dutch attacker had a couple of good goalscoring chances, along with the strike he did finish off, and looked the most lively in the final third.

He was taken off for the final 20 minutes after leaving a positive impact on the match.

Here are some Spurs fans praising Bergwijn:
