Tottenham fans react to Ryan Sessegnon’s performance in 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough

Tottenham’s patchy form continued yesterday with a 1-1 draw away from home against Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round.

Ashley Fletcher sprung the offside trap to put Jonathan Woodgate’s side ahead in the second half before Lucas Moura’s header earned a replay.

Jose Mourinho was brought to Tottenham to win a trophy and the FA Cup represents this season’s best chance but this was not a trophy-winning performance.

Spurs have been poor during the festive period and the absence of Harry Kane will be keenly felt by a side struggling for invention and goals.

Ryan Sessegnon is getting a run in the side but has been unable to show his best form yet. He looks bereft of confidence and does not immediately seem like the kind of player Mourinho loves.

He is capable of driving forward with pace and skill but doesn’t have the belief to do that right now, resulting in some one-paced performances from a player who should have plenty of verve.

Sessegnon has a huge reputation and a £25 million pricetag (BBC) but is struggling to live up to both so far. He deserves time and patience but there were plenty of fans lining up to criticise his display at the Riverside Stadium yesterday on another disappointing day under Mourinho.
