Mauricio Pochettino is plotting a Tottenham clearout in the January transfer window to revive the club’s fortunes, according to the Telegraph.

The report says that Pochettino’s January plans centre around getting rid of players from his bloated squad, as opposed to bring in new blood.

Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama and Serge Aurier are all named in the report, along with Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko, while Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen’s situations are all now well-known.

As per Sky Sports, Pochettino said of his January plans earlier in the week: “We are working so hard to put everyone on the same page. Only we need time.

“January is going to be a good opportunity too to fix this situation and the next one. That is the problem when something happens that you cannot control.”

There was a mixed reaction to Pochettino’s reported plans; with some fans feeling that the current crop are not up to the task and wanting a clear out while others feel that getting rid of players in key positions without having replacements lined up doesn’t make sense.

It depends which school of thought you subscribe to whether or not getting rid of some or trying to buy more in is the answer for Tottenham but it promises to be an interesting window for Spurs either way. Pochettino will have hoped to have put the club’s season on a more even keel by then.
