Spurs were on the wrong end of a VAR decision which adjudged Eric Dier to have handled in the box.
Despite the disappointment, one man who did impress with new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who enjoyed a solid afternoon in midfield.
Tottenham added the Danish maestro to their ranks in the summer from Southampton, paying £15 million for his services.
The 25-year-old has started all three of Tottenham’s games this season but was left out of Thursday’s Europa League game against Shkendija.
Hojbjerg already looks like a decent acquisition by Mourinho and against Newcastle, he worked wonderfully well alongside Harry Winks.
Tottenham will hope to improve on their sixth-place finish last season in Mourinho’s first full season in charge.
Players like Hojbjerg will therefore be desperately important to those plans and he already looks like a decent addition.

Hojberg & Winks at half time: 110 combined touches, dispossessed once, 95% passing accuracy. Tidy, under the radar.
