Tottenham rounded off a patchy festive period with an abject performance in a 1-0 defeat against Southampton at St Mary’s yesterday.
Jose Mourinho’s side never got going at all on the south coast, as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men showed superior desire and intensity throughout.
There is a lack of ideas about how to break teams down, with the defenders generally flinging balls forward to the frontline without any kind of joined-up thinking.
That may offer some mitigation for Lucas Moura’s failure to influence the match but the 27-year-old lacked fight and was wasteful when he did get the ball.

That saw many Spurs fans on Twitter criticise the Brazilian’s display, with some feeling that he is still living off the Champions League semi-final heroics from last season.
Lucas has failed to kick on from that despite getting more gametime under Mourinho and will need to step up to the plate in the coming weeks, with Harry Kane looking set for a spell on the sidelines.
Mourinho faces a test of his mettle in terms of implementing a blueprint for the side and he will be hoping that Lucas can raise his game to be part of it.
