Tottenham fans react to links with England manager Gareth Southgate

Tottenham have been linked with England manager Gareth Southgate – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have reacted extremely negatively to the speculation.

Spurs, who sacked Jose Mourinho as their boss on Monday, have appointed Ryan Mason as interim head coach until the end of this season.

His first job is preparing for a Premier League fixture at home to Southampton on Wednesday, before the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City this Sunday at Wembley Stadium.

The Guardian reports that current England boss Southgate could be a potential candidate to become the next Spurs manager.

It is explained that he could be targeted after England’s participation this summer in the European Championships.

The report adds his relationship with Spurs forward and England captain Harry Kane is “excellent”, plus he’d like to return to club management at some stage.

A selection of Spurs supporters though on social media are convinced Southgate would be a poor appointment if they considered him further down the line, with one even suggesting they’d prefer to stick with Mason.

He’s been in charge of the England national team since 2016, leading them to a memorable World Cup semi final back in 2019.

However, his only role in club management to date was with Middlesbrough, who he left back in 2009 after three years with them.
