Juan Foyth has been assessed by the Tottenham Hotspur medical team after suffering an injury in pre-season. Tottenham’s official website has issued an injury update and the damage is not as bad as initially feared.
Foyth suffered a lateral ligament injury on his left ankle during the pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich. He will miss the start of the season and should return to training in September.
But the Argentina international was suspended for the first two games anyway and there were fears that he could be out for the remainder of the calendar year.
Foyth will now undergo rehabilitation as he targets a return to training in September. It remains to be seen whether Mauricio Pochettino will be forced to dip into the transfer market with just days remaining.
Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez remain on Tottenham’s books. If needed, Eric Dier can cover at centre-back and youngster Japhet Tanganga has impressed in pre-season.
But Foyth’s injury has cast doubts over Tottenham’s squad depth. After making just two new signings, Daniel Levy could be forced to look at another player. Here are some fans reacting to the Foyth injury update.
