It looks like it will be a straight fight between Harry Winks of Tottenham and West Ham’s Declan Rice to anchor England’s midfield at Euro 2020.
The Three Lions booked their place at next summer’s showpiece with a cruising 7-0 victory over Montenegro, and it was Winks who played at the back of midfield for the second game running.
With the £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) playing, England have scored 13 and let in zero in their last two matches and combined with the poor form of Rice, that bodes well for Winks.
Spurs have struggled this season but this England side has the pace and movement Mauricio Pochettino’s side are lacking, which gave Winks no shortage of passing options.

And many supporters on Twitter hailed the way Winks kept it simple, even if it was against limited opposition on the night – you can only beat what’s in front of you.
With Harry Kane netting a hat-trick, Spurs fans may hope that the international break could prove a catalyst for some of their players to get some confidence back.
Winks will want to play every week for Spurs to nail down his place in the England side, because across London, Rice is a guaranteed starter for West Ham.
