A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans were left furious and baffled after watching Manchester United’s victory over Chelsea on Monday – with many Spurs fans stunned by an incident involving Harry Maguire.
It was less than two months ago when Jose Mourinho’s men were reduced to 10 men in their clash with the Blues.

Son Heung-min was dismissed after a clash with Antonio Rudiger was checked by the VAR. The forward was deemed to have raised his boot into the defender as he lay on the ground.
There is surely no question that Son made an error to seemingly lash out. But Tottenham fans surely have every right to feel aggrieved following Monday’s game.

Maguire was not punished after appearing to kick out at Michy Batshuayi as the pair clashed on the touchline. In truth, the kick arguably looked to be worse than the one that led to Son being dismissed.
Remarkably, the check on the incident seemed to last no more than a couple of seconds. And Anthony Taylor – who was also the referee for Spurs’ clash with Chelsea – decided against going to the pitch side monitor right next to the incident.
Plenty of Tottenham fans have slammed the inconsistency. It certainly appears that there is little difference between the two incidents.
And yet, Maguire avoided punishment while Son was sent off. And while Son had to serve a three-match ban, Maguire was able to score a key goal later on.
You could completely understand why some may argue that neither is a red card. But it is no surprise that many Tottenham supporters feel that Maguire simply has to go with the precedent being set.
Here is what some of the Spurs fans made of Monday’s incident…
