Gareth Bale helped Wales secure victory on Wednesday night in the Nations League – and some Tottenham fans on Twitter responded to his performance.

Bale, 31, captained his country to a 3-1 win at home to Finland, which was a result that clinched them promotion to the top-flight of the Nations League competition.

The Spurs attacker was substituted off after an hour, but left his mark on the game by assisting Harry Wilson’s opening goal with a brilliantly threaded through ball behind the Finland defence.

He went close to scoring himself on a couple of occasions, but was denied by the goalkeeper and ultimately he’ll be happy to get some more minutes in his legs as he gets back to his very sharpest.

Bale will be hoping he’s done enough to force his way into the Spurs XI this weekend, as Jose Mourinho’s side host Manchester City in the Premier League and look to build on a strong start to the season.

The left-footed winger has been looked after by his club and international manager in his attempt to get fully match fit again, with signs in the last few weeks that he’s getting there.

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media were impressed with Bale’s international contribution and are excited about his progress.
