Tottenham saw their hopes of finishing in the top four suffer a blow as they lost 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Olivier Giroud timed a return to form to perfection, scoring the opening goal against the team who reportedly wanted to sign him in January.
Marcos Alonso made it 2-0 and although Tottenham pulled one back through an Antonio Rudiger own goal, it proved too little, too late.
Jose Mourinho now has a real fight on his hands to secure Champions League football for Tottenham next season.
He is currently operating without a regular striker. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are both out of action for the foreseeable future.
Despite a pretty average performance; one man who has come in for some appreciation is Erik Lamela.
It was the Argentine’s strike that was diverted into the back of the net by an outstretched leg from Rudiger and he largely looked good.
The 27-year-old has made 16 appearances this season, scoring twice. He has struggled with some injury issues and he will hope that a lack of forward options hands him more opportunities.
Lamela could be an ideal option for Mourinho to utilise in the coming weeks and supporters clearly appreciated the winger despite yesterday’s defeat.
Here is a selection of tweet relating to the £80,000-a-week player after the loss to Chelsea:
Erik Lamela is the only one who knows it’s a derby and he’s played 10 minutes.

-Worst performance under José, pathetic response for Leipzig
-Our Attack is poor because we don’t have Sonny & Kane. Our defence is fully fit and useless
-Lucas was terrible, Jan & Toby were poor
-Lamela improved us
-Massive chance to make the top 4 missed. Not good enough

Lamela may have his injury and fitness issues but atleast he gives 110% and wears his heart on the sleeve and loves the club and plays for badge he gets it- if only his work rate was matched by the rest of the squad! #THFC #CoCo 🇦🇷 pic.twitter.com/8cWYhOY8Ia

Lloris, Lamela and Lo celso are the only ones who can say they tried. Imo start Lamela from now on

Bit of appreciation for Erik Lamela. Just come back from injury and already playing miles better than half our team. I don’t think people understand just how much he actually loves this club and is always prepared to give 100%. This man is key to the next 3 months. Respect him. pic.twitter.com/8XOLONIoAK
