Tottenham got their pre-season campaign underway with a straightforward win over Ipswich Town – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter responded to show their delight with the performance of Dele Alli.
Alli, 24, provided two assists during Spurs’ 3-0 home win, with Ryan Sessegnon and Heung-Min Son (two) both on the scoresheet for the Premier League outfit.
Manager Jose Mourinho had a chance to look at the fitness of his players in the contest, while he also gave run outs to several youngsters from the academy from the bench.
Alli has a remarkable senior record of 62 goals and 55 assists in 222 appearances for Spurs, but that hasn’t stopped a wave of criticism being aimed towards him for his form during the past year or so.
The England international has set such high standards for himself after bursting onto the scene in the top-flight following his move from MK Dons, but wasn’t quite replicate that last season.
He finished the campaign with a decent return nine goals in 38 games across all competitions, but many feel he’s somewhat lost the spark in his role as a creative midfielder.
