Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has signed a new contract – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter responded by stating they want senior defender Toby Alderweireld to commit his future instead.
Spurs confirmed on their official website that Whiteman has penned a deal that keeps him at the North London club until 2022.
The 21-year-old is a product of the academy that has come through the youth ranks and has extended his stay.
He’s yet to make his first-team debut for Spurs, but has been on the bench in five senior games so far this campaign and is highly-rated.
Despite a new deal for a youth prospect, a selection of Spurs supporters on social media have responded by asking about Alderweireld’s future.
The centre-back’s contract with the club expires at the end of the season and as it stands he will depart then.
But Football.London has reported that manager Jose Mourinho wants talks with individual players about their futures and there is a belief that they could still convince him to stay.
The 30-year-old has remained an ever-present in the XI since Mourinho’s entrance through the doors and is arguably still the best defender at the club.
There is a lot of expectancy from supporters to see him extend his stay, which has clouded over the positive news that a promising goalkeeper from the academy
