Tottenham fans react to Alderweireld comments about why he left
Some Tottenham Hotspur fans were heartened by comments from Toby Alderweireld about why he left the club.
What’s the story?
In a press conference for Belgium, via Het Laatste Nieuws, the central defender revealed he departed N17 because of his kids.
Alderweireld claimed during his time at Spurs that he would rarely see his children.
The Belgium international also claimed his move to Qatar was slightly motivated by money.
During a season of struggle last time out, the defender played just 25 times in the Premier League.
He was replaced by Argentine ace Cristian Romero, who joined on an initial loan deal.
Does Alderweireld exit show the need for reform in England?
For as long as anyone can remember, English football has been packed with fixtures almost every week. From August right through to May, there is a match on in the country.
However, does Alderweireld leaving Tottenham show the need for reform?
Premier League clubs are the worst hit by the schedule, especially if you are in Spurs’ position.
This season the club will need to contend with the Europa Conference League. It means the club will be playing every Thursday and Sunday. Throw in the Christmas schedule and you can see why the division has massive injury problems.
Take the Christmas schedule for example. Players are made to train on 25 December and miss out on the festivities with their families. All because of fixtures on Boxing Day.
Is it fair? Does Alderweireld have a point?
Here is how some Tottenham fans reacted to his comments…
