Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Jack O’Connell reports

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Sunday People (19/1; page 49) suggesting that Spurs want Jack O’Connell from Sheffield United.

Jose Mourinho’s men have made a quiet start to the January transfer window. Gedson Fernandes has been brought in on loan.

Spurs fans will be hoping however, that it is an eventful end to the window. And it appears that the club could look at signing the replacement for one key man before the deadline passes.

The Sunday People (19/1; page 49) reports that Tottenham want O’Connell with Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring in the summer.

O’Connell has been outstanding for the Blades. Chris Wilder’s men boast the third best defensive record in the Premier League having only been promoted last season.

The 25-year-old has been at Bramall Lane since their most recent campaign in League One. And like many of his teammates, he has taken his game to another level with every step up.

Nevertheless, reports that Spurs want the centre-back have divided some of their fans on social media. Vertonghen has been a fantastic servant for the club, and some clearly do not deem O’Connell to be capable of filling the void he may leave.

Meanwhile, there are others who are excited by the reports. They have been very impressed with what they have seen from O’Connell since Sheffield United were promoted.

And those fans are confident that he could prove an inspired signing if there is anything in the rumours and O’Connell does make the move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
