Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Eric Dier’s display

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Eric Dier’s performance during Spurs’ FA Cup replay with Southampton on Wednesday.

Jose Mourinho’s men are through to the next round. But they needed a dramatic comeback to book their place in the fifth round.

Dier was handed his first start for Jose Mourinho’s men since Tottenham’s replay win in the previous round against Middlesbrough. He had featured in Spurs’ three previous games in all competitions, but all saw the Englishman come off the bench late on.

And unfortunately, it appears that plenty of fans felt that Dier did not do enough to stake a claim for another chance in the starting lineup anytime soon.

Dier has arguably not been at his best for some time. And some of the supporters were not impressed by his performance against the Saints.

Some felt that he was poor alongside Harry Winks in the middle of the park. They claimed that Winks was given more work to do because of his teammate. And it was suggested that he was outshone by Gedson Fernandes who came on during the second-half.

Admittedly, there was also some praise for Dier’s performance. Some felt that it was his best display for some time. However, the majority appear to feel that he was something of a passenger.

It did appear that he struggled to stamp his authority in the middle of the park. And Southampton did not find it too difficult to win that battle
