Perhaps unsurprisingly, the prospect of replacing 32-year-old Jan Vertonghen with 34-year-old Diego Godin has not gone down particularly amongst a number of Tottenham Hotspur fans on social media.
The Daily Mirror reported on Thursday that Jose Mourinho is keen to sign Godin this summer. Jan Vertonghen is heading into the final months of his contract with Spurs.
Godin is no stranger to Mourinho’s shopping list. The Mirror notes that the Portuguese wanted the centre-back while he was at Manchester United.
And despite being left furious after missing out, the Mirror reports that Tottenham are now interested in signing the Inter Milan man this summer.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato have claimed that Spurs have even made an offer for their reported target.
Unfortunately for Mourinho, the reports do not appear to have left some of the Spurs fans on social media feeling particularly excited.
Godin has been an outstanding defender throughout his career. He deserves to remain synonymous with the Atletico Madrid side that has enjoyed so much success under Diego Simeone.
However, several fans believe that the 135-cap international is no longer anywhere near that level. His spell in Italy has been reasonable without being spectacular.
It is fair to say that a number of supporters are not convinced that Spurs signing Godin would be a step in the right direction.
Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reports…
The rebuild will get us a squad of eldery players.

Godin was fantastic but his best days are possibly behind him? Why would you phase out Vertonghen in favour of Godin?

Him and Vert lining up as the slowest CB pairing the PL has ever seen.

You need a few, he would be good leader in that shaky defence.
