Napoli have dropped their interest in a summer move for Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier, according to a report by the Sun.
They claim that the reason offered up by the Italian side is that they are now focusing on younger players but Daniel Levy’s reported £40 million asking price for an off-form 28-year-old can’t have helped.
It certainly seems bizarre that Napoli would suddenly change transfer tact – it’s not as if his age was a secret – but the report claims that Levy won’t be dropping the reported fee in response.
It’s not been the best of weeks for Trippier, who was cut from the England squad for next month’s Nations League, having been named in the initial preliminary 27.

But the £65,000 a week man (Spotrac) has a Champions League final to prepare for and could well have a winners medal around his neck come Saturday night.
Even with that Madrid showpiece looming, plenty of Spurs fans found enough time to react to the news on Twitter and they’re uniformly gutted that Trippier won’t be going after a season where he has suffered a severe loss of form…
