Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to sign Juventus defender Merih Demiral as the Turkish star continues to struggle for game time under Maurizio Sarri – and Spurs fans are desperate to see him signed.
Bleacher Report claimed last week that Tottenham have opened initial talks to sign the former Sassuolo defender, who moved to Juventus in the summer. The 22-year-old has since managed just two appearances for Juve.
One of those came this week, helping Juventus beat Bayer Leverkusen thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain. The other, a narrow 2-1 win against Hellas Verona in Serie A. Demiral is believed to be keen on leaving.
Turkish Football have now claimed that Demiral could leave Juventus, but if he is to leave the Italian champions in the January transfer window – it will not be to another Serie A side. Instead, Demiral would be open to a Premier League move.
The report claims Tottenham are not alone in their pursuit, with Arsenal and Manchester United also keen on the Turkey international. It is believed a fee of £29million will be enough to land the player.
Tottenham fans have reacted to the reported news that their club are rivalling Arsenal and Manchester United for the signature of Demiral ahead of the January window – and many Spurs supporters are desperate for the north Londoners to get a deal done.
Should be our priority signing in January. Jose has already said our defence needs to be improved
