Tottenham Hotspur bounced back from their midweek Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester United with a 2-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.
The club’s spirits were lift thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now up to fourth in the table, although Leicester City could leapfrog them later.
It was another uncomfortable afternoon for Spurs, with Hugo Lloris making a shocking mistake by losing possession in his own six-yard box to gift an equaliser.
It was a moment of madness from the experienced World Cup winner, who to his credit put in a great performance in the second half.
Spurs had to play around an hour of the game with 10 men, after full-back Serge Aurier saw red at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Ivorian produced two quick-fire fouls to earn his marching orders for the second time as a Tottenham player.
Spurs were able to dig deep, but Aurier has come in for huge criticism from fans after his stupidity, even if his second yellow was ‘harsh’.
Tottenham fans react
A lot of Spurs fans expressed their frustration on social media after the game about Aurier’s rash nature, which remains a problem:

Aurier and Hugo should be apologising to everyone for their part in that match by the way. Brain dead doesn’t even cover it! Harry was immense, give him the armband! #THFC

Regardless whether it was Tottenham Hotspur’s throw-in or not, that is completely wreckless behaviour from right-back Serge Aurier.

He is and always will be a liability.
