Tottenham youngster Ryan Sessegnon is being linked with a loan move this summer – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by claiming it would be a mistake to let him go.
The Daily Mail reports that the 20-year-old is ‘almost certain’ to be loaned out in this transfer window if Spurs complete a deal for Real Madrid’s 23-year-old Sergio Reguilon.
It is understood that Jose Mourinho’s side are currently in advanced talks for left-back Reguilon and clubs are waiting in the wings to take Sessegnon on loan.
Sessegnon was a bit-part player for Spurs last season and struggled to gain minutes following the arrival of Mourinho, making just 12 appearances across all competitions.
The English left-footer is versatile as he can be used as a left-back or as a left-winger, but predominately views himself as the latter.
He will reportedly be sent out on loan if Spurs do complete a deal to sign a new left-back, which would suggest the club’s long-term plan for him is to become a recognised full-back.
A selection of Spurs supporters on social media are convinced they can’t afford to lose Sessegnon, as they already have a small squad and need the options.
They have a huge amount of fixtures to complete this season and are preparing for a Europa League qualifying tie against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday.
Here are some Spurs fans discussing Sessegnon:
NO KEEP HIM PLS I LIKE HAVING DEPTH

As soon as we add a player we get rid of one 🤦♂️ Any chance of improving the depth for our 259 games this season? https://t.co/WbKzbRvEOz

I don’t really see the connection. Sessegnon isn’t a real left-back. If we sign Bale he should become Bale’s understudy because I see exactly the same trajectory going forward for Sessegnon turning from LB to an attacking midfielder. https://t.co/VWp2GoBkO6

Why don’t we loan Cirkin and keep Sess?
— Rickles 🇺🇲 (@burks_eric) September 15, 2020
We need all the depth we can get especially as he can play LB & on the wing

But not in September. We need him for Carabao Cup and Europa League qualification rounds

Think this the wrong thing to do personally. We’ve got so many games this season, we need as many players as possible https://t.co/NuuG99zkv9

Every player we have loaned in the last 4 years have either been not played by the club or has got injured, Spurs will never learn
