Tottenham fans react as Romano claims club have opened talks to sign 22-year-old Europa League winner
On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano claimed during a session on his Here We Go podcast that Tottenham had opened talks to sign Jules Kounde. The two-time France international is currently sparkling at Sevilla under Julen Lopetegui. Tottenham fans reacted to the potential talks for Kounde.
The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the best centre-backs in European football under the age of 23. His form over the past two seasons for Sevilla, in which he has played 89 times and won the Europa League, even saw him earn a place in France’s Euro 2020 side. Of course, France are out.
That could benefit Spurs and their pursuit of Kounde. With France out, Kounde is now likely to focus on sorting out his future and Tottenham are said to be in talks with his agents over a move – as per Romano. He said: “Tottenham are considering a move, they are in contact with his agents.”
What have Tottenham fans said about Kounde?
Tottenham desperately need a centre-back. One they can rely on for a number of years. Eric Dier has been inconsistent, Toby Alderweireld has been poor, Davinson Sanchez makes one mistake a match, and Joe Rodon is still learning. Japhet Tanganga has struggled with numerous injuries.
While Sanchez is quick, he costs Spurs a goal a game with his defensive frailties. Spurs need a player with the reliability of Alderweireld, but with the pace of Sanchez – and that is Kounde. At 22, he offers Spurs a long-term option. Tottenham fans are desperate to see him added to the squad.
