Tottenham fans react as report claims Pochettino turned down chance to sign Leicester ace

Mauricio Pochettino reportedly turned down the chance to sign Leicester City playmaker Youri Tielemans during his time as Tottenham Hotspur manager, as the Belgian continues to shine in England – and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter.

Pochettino is still regarded as a legend at Tottenham after more than five years in charge of the north London club – making them an established top-four side and reaching the Champions League final. But a trophy was never won.

Since being sacked and replaced by chairman Daniel Levy, Pochettino is yet to take over at a new club. Jose Mourinho, meanwhile, has got Spurs firing on all cylinders again – with enthusiasm high after an excellent transfer window.

According to The Evening Standard, Levy is much more inclined to sign a player Mourinho has suggested – rather than Pochettino. But the report also claims Pochettino turned down the chance to sign players on a regular basis, too.

They include Real Madrid superstar Marco Asensio and Youri Tielemans – who joined Leicester after a loan from Monaco for £40million (Mercury) last summer. He has since scored nine and created 13 in 61 appearances for the Foxes.

Mourinho told BT Sport in 2017 that he was a fan of Tielemans, as per The Metro: “The biggest quality he has is that he turns, plays it short or long. He is a real playmaker. His personality will allow him to be one of the great Belgian players.”

Tottenham supporters reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Pochettino chose to turn down the chance to sign Tielemans – though it is unclear when he made that decision. The majority are gutted Tielemans is not in a Spurs shirt.
