Tottenham supporters raged as Mauricio Pochettino was handed a £10,000 fine and a two-match ban for his recent altercation with Mike Dean (The Guardian).
The Argentine boss confronted the official after his team’s shock 2-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor, after being unhappy with the hosts wrongly being awarded a corner for their opening goal.
Pochettino was furious with Dean, but admitted later on that his emotions got the better of him.
He said as quoted by The Mirror: “I should have gone to the dressing room and got some water. A stupid thing happens and you react.”
Dean was dropped as the fourth official for Tottenham’s next game against Chelsea as a result.
The defeat to the Clarets effectively spelled the end of Tottenham’s title challenge which perhaps explains Pochettino’s outburst.
Following his improper conduct charge, he will now be in the stands for the coming games against Southampton and Liverpool.
