Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the news that England U19 international Paris Maghoma has officially joined Championship outfit Brentford.
The midfielder came through the club’s academy and featured 11 times for the U23s this season and four times for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.
Maghoma, 18, never made a competitive first-team appearance for the club, featuring once in a pre-season friendly against Girona in August 2018.
Taking to Instagram to comment on his departure, Maghoma said: “New beginnings… happy to sign for Brentford FC, time to get started and I’m very excited for the future. All glory to God for making this happen.
Enfield-born Maghoma will now join up with Brentford’s B team overseen by Neil MacFarlane, but will perhaps be hoping to impress enough to feature for the Bees’ first-team, which is currently striving for promotion to the Premier League.
Thomas Frank’s side are currently third, six points behind second-placed Leeds United.
Tottenham fans react
Some Tottenham fans on social media were a little disappointed to learn of the teenager’s move to Brentford:
Good luck Paris. You have been through the nose comprehensive, professional apprenticeship at the THFC Academy. Go to Brentford and show them the player we’ve helped to grow to the pro that you are today #COYS

Paris Maghoma has joined Brentford (well, their B team). 18yo midfielder who consistently got picked for England but not a player I particularly rated (though I have friends who did). Still, hope to see him do well; if he’s getting picked for England he’s undoubtedly got ability.

Was optimistic about Maghoma couple years ago. But never really kicked on. Lots of natural talent but unfortunately falls into the lazy category. Anyway hope it works out for him 👍

Cool. Now use that money to make Gio permenant or build Lamela a statue, it’s your choice.

Does that mean that we can now afford a Defensive Midfielder?

Gutted about this – such a talented young player, one of the few from the academy I thought could have a career at Spurs. Real shame, to be losing our future like this, but best of luck to the lad.

I have a feeling this will bite us badly. Brentford are well known for an amazing ability to scout and pick up very good talents for cheap and sell them off for a good profit.
