Mauricio Pochettino has told his pre-Bayern Munich press conference – as quoted by Football London – that the decision to hand Moussa Sissoko a new contract was made by the club and the player – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Sissoko, 30, struggled in his first two seasons at Tottenham after joining the club from Newcastle for £30million. But Pochettino moved Sissoko into the middle of the park in his third campaign and it saw the midfielder shine.
Indeed, the former Toulouse ace won the 2018-19 Player of the Season award, and has continued to shine in a Spurs shirt this time around. He has started all seven league games for Spurs this campaign, despite the signing of Tanguy Ndombele.

Sissoko was rewarded for his form with a new deal until the summer of 2023 last week, and Pochettino was asked about the new deal in his press conference. However, the Argentine stated that the decision was made by the club, not him.
“It’s a decision from the club and the player to sign a contract,” Pochettino said, excluding his own name. Tottenham still have Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in the final years of their current deals.
Tottenham fans have reacted to Pochettino’s comments over the renewed contract for Sissoko and many are concerned that it was not the Argentine who opted to hand Sissoko the deal – but the board and chairman Daniel Levy.
