Marouane Fellaini has responded to rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur by refusing to rule out a move to the north London club and confirming he is contact with Jose Mourinho – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Fellaini, 32, is currently playing for Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng after leaving Manchester United in January 2019. He departed United just weeks after Jose Mourinho was sacked at Old Trafford.
Belgian outlet Les Sports+ have claimed that Mourinho and Tottenham have made the former Everton man their first priority in the January transfer window. That being despite Fellaini earning a whopping £350,000 a week in China.
Marouane Fellaini has told Eleven Sports – as quoted by the Daily Mail – that he is contact with Mourinho and failed to rule out a move back to the Premier League with Spurs. Fellaini did say, though, that he is happy in China at Luneng.
“Jose is special for me. We text each other, we call each other from time to time,” Fellaini said. “He’s taken over at Spurs and he’s doing well. I wish him all the best. But I am good where I am now.”
Fellaini has been playing in midfield in China, clocking up 34 appearances in all competitions for Luneng. He has scored 12 goals, and laid on five assists – helping his side reach the final of the Chinese FA Cup, where they lost to Shanghai SIPG.
Tottenham fans have reacted to Fellaini’s comments amid reported interest the versatile midfielder could be on his way to north London to reunite with Mourinho, but Spurs fans are relieved that he has stated he is happy in China.
