Tottenham fans react as Marcus Edwards scored against Arsenal

Marcus Edwards returned to north London to score against Arsenal as Portuguese side Guimaraes pushed the Gunners all the way at The Emirates – and Tottenham fans have reacted to their former academy player’s display and goal.

Once dubbed Tottenham’s ‘Mini Messi’, Edwards left Spurs in the summer after failing to live up to the hype around his name. Mauricio Pochettino allowed his contract to expire, after a failed loan spell at Norwich and just one senior Spurs outing.

A surprise move to Portugal side Guimaraes followed, but Edwards had struggled in his first few outings. Indeed, he was yet to score or lay on assist in the four appearances prior to Thursday night’s clash – even missing a penalty in a shootout on Saturday.

However, Edwards was handed a start against his old side’s bitter rivals Arsenal at The Emirates, and it took the England youth international just eight minutes to twist and turn inside the Arsenal penalty area before firing past Emi Martinez.

It was Edwards’ first goal for Guimaraes, and just his third senior goal of his career after scoring twice for Dutch side Excelsior. However, a brace from Nicolas Pepe – both of which were free-kicks – saved the day for Arsenal to win 3-2.

Tottenham fans, nevertheless, reacted on Twitter after hearing Edwards had found the back of the net against Arsenal at The Emirates – and some are hoping to see him in a Spurs shirt again, urging their club to re-sign him. Some are also hoping Daniel Levy inserted a buy-back clause.
