Marcel Lavinier has confirmed on Instagram that he has swapped Chelsea for Tottenham Hotspur after a brief trial with the clu’s Under-23 side towards the end of September – and Spurs fans have responded on Twitter.
London-born Lavinier, 19, came through the ranks at Chelsea and was a regular member the Under-18 team before breaking into Chelsea’s Under-23 side last season. He played 10 Premier League 2 matches, and three times in the EFL trophy.
However, Lavinier – who has Portuguese citizenship and has been called up for Portugal’s Under-18 side – went on trial to Spurs last month and played in Premier League 2 wins over Arsenal and Southampton, following his Chelsea release in the summer.
That has proved enough for Tottenham, who have decided to offer the versatile defender a contract following his two 90-minute displays. Lavinier underlined his delight at moving to Spurs with a post on Instagram, during Monday’s deadline day.

Lavinier offers versatility at the back, naturally being a right-back but also able to play on the left side of the defence. Last season, Lavinier – who has two caps for England’s Under-17 side – also played in the middle of the defence.
Spurs fans reacted to the news that their side had raided Chelsea’s Under-23 team for the signing of Lavinier – while Ryan Sessegnon congratulated Lavinier on his Instagram post.
