Tottenham fans react as Luka Modric responds to question about a return

Luka Modric has responded to a question on a potential future return to Tottenham Hotspur and follow in Gareth Bale’s footsteps, with the Croatian now in the final year of his contract – and Spurs fans have responded.

Modric, 35, is likely to be considering his options with his Real Madrid contract expiring in the summer. The Croatia international and 2018 Ballon d’Or winner now has 351 appearances under his belt at Real – since his move from Spurs in 2012.

The former Dinamo Zagreb man earned his move to Real Madrid after clocking up 160 matches for Tottenham. Modric remains in excellent form despite his age, even scoring in the El Clasico on the weekend – during a 3-1 win over Barcelona.

Speaking to FourFourTwo – as per The Mail – Modric responded when asked if he could rejoin Tottenham in the near future. However, Modric stated that he wants to stay at Real Madrid beyond next summer, saying he is “too old” for Spurs.

“I’m too old to go back to Tottenham,” Modric told FourFourTwo, as quoted by the Mail. “I still have a year left in Madrid and then we’ll see what happens. I feel good and I want to continue playing football for a few more years.

“I am focused on Madrid and the things we can achieve this season. I will sit down to talk to the management, and we will look for a suitable solution for everyone. No matter what happens there will be no problem.”

Spurs brought Bale back to north London on loan, with the option of a second loan. His Real contract expires in the summer of 2022, and that could mean a deal for Bale is somewhat permanent. Modric, will be available on a pre-contract from January.

Tottenham supporters responded on Twitter to Modric’s comments and the thought of having the pocket-sized Croatian back at Spurs – and many think he would be a good addition on a short-term basis.
