MLS side Montreal Impact have confirmed Tottenham Hotspur defender Luis Binks is training with the club in what could be a somewhat surprising move to swap England for the MLS – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Canadian outlet TVA Sports broke the news that the 18-year-old was set to leave Tottenham, and join Arsenal legend Thierry Henry at the MLS side. He has been a regular in the Spurs’ Under-23 side this season, and played under Ryan Mason.
However, the England youth international is likely to have realised the path into the senior side was blocked by a number of supreme senior talents. The rise of Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth remaining at the club have made it harder for Binks.
Binks is about to join ex-Inter Milan and Southampton man Saphir Taider, playmaker Bojan and French veteran Rod Fanni. Montreal announced that Binks is training with the club, with suggestions on social media that it will become permanent.
Binks is the second young centre-back to have gone on trial this week, with Jonathan Dinzeyi proving his worth at QPR. He lined up in an Under-23 match for the R’s earlier this week, scoring as his new side beat Coventry City.
Tottenham fans reacted to the news that Binks is training with Henry’s Montreal with a view to completing a permanent move from Spurs to the MLS side – and many feel the club could be making a mistake.
There are suggestions that a move will become permanent when the MLS window opens on February 12.
