Lucas Moura has told Brazilian outlet Lance that he could leave Tottenham Hotspur in a year’s time and is desperate to play for boyhood club Sao Paulo again – and Spurs fans have reacted on Twitter.
Lucas, 27, has been integral to Tottenham’s 2019-20 campaign with injuries in the second half of the season taking their toll. Indeed, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn have been sidelined for a considerable amount of time.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star has clocked up 39 appearances in all competitions for Spurs – taking his tally to 99 for the north London club since his £23million (BBC) move from France in January 2018. He has scored 23 goals in that time.
Taling to Brazilian website Lance, Brazil international Lucas spoke of how he has a 10-year plan to remain in Europe for a decade. Now in his eighth year since leaving Sao Paulo in 2012, he also claimed he could leave in a year.
“I do have São Paulo in my head, in my plans,” Moura said. “When I arrived in Europe, I had a goal to stay here for at least ten years. I want to return to São Paulo. It may be three, five years from now, or it may be a year from now. Football is dynamic.”
With everyone fit at Tottenham, it will be interesting to see if Lucas starts for the north London club. They have the likes of Son, Bergwijn, Dele Alli, Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon rivalling Lucas for a place out wide.
Tottenham fans reacted to his comments on Twitter, and many have told him he can leave the club – while others have asked why a number of players have so freely discussed their futures.
Why are our players saying stuff like this? Jan (understandable) Toby and now Lucas?!

He can go now if he wants

Unfortunately I think they would need to want him for that to happen. We are stuck with him.
