Jose Mourinho has taken to Instagram to applaud Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies for playing the majority of the second half against Aston Villa with an injury – and Spurs fans reckon his comment could be a dig aimed at Gareth Bale.
Davies, 27, entered the field of play on Sunday evening after Sergio Reguilon suffered a foot injury. The Spanish defender intercepted a pass, only for Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson to trod on the ex-Real Madrid star. Davies came on in his place.
He played the remaining 33 minutes, as Spurs held on to win 2-0 over Villa. Davies was then called up by the Wales national team, only to pull out of their three World Cup qualifiers this month due to injury. Mourinho reacted on Instagram.

Bale, meanwhile, has shocked Spurs fans by stating the “plan” is to return to Real Madrid this summer when his season-long loan at the North London club expires. There is an option for a second successive loan at Spurs, until his Real contract expires.
Spurs fans are not impressed with Bale’s comments and it remains to be seen if Mourinho will look to keep him for another season. Some supporters believe that Mourinho’s comment on Instagram is a dig at Bale, given Bale’s niggling injuries this term.
