Tottenham fans react as Hakim Ziyech shines for Ajax at the Bernabeu

Hakim Ziyech produced a glittering display on the biggest stage against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, as he helped Ajax overcome the Champions League holders – and Tottenham fans are desperate for their club to sign him.

In the previous leg, Real had earned a 2-1 win in Holland. Goals from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema had cancelled out Ziyech’s equaliser, giving Real two away goals.

But Ajax produced an incredible performance to win at the Beranbeu and progress into the last eight. It was 25-year-old playmaker Ziyech who got things rolling, as Ajax completed a 4-1 rout away from home to win 5-3 overall.

Ziyech scored his 18th of the season and opened the floodgates in the seventh minute, with a tidy finish past Thibaut Courtois. David Neres for Ajax’s second, after a wonderful assist by ex-Southampton man Dusan Tadic.

Tadic also assisted the first goal, and he then got his name on the score sheet with an impeccable finish from 18 yards. Asensio got one back, but Lasse Schone’s unbelievable free-kick saw Ajax in 4-1.

Every single Ajax player starred for the Dutch club, in what is likely to be the shock result of the tournament. It caused a stir on Twitter, including many Tottenham fans pleading for their club to sign the Moroccan.

Ziyech has been linked with Spurs in the past. Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim that Spurs would have to spend £30million to land Ajax’s number 10, and Tottenham supporters are keen for their club to do so.
