Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed a double injury blow ahead of the midweek Champions League fixture.

Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen will not travel with the squad to Serbia. Both players missed the 1-1 draw with Everton and have failed fitness tests ahead of the game against Red Star Belgrade.

Lamela has a hamstring injury and he continues to undergo assessment. The Argentina winger has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers this season but has missed the past two games.

Spurs will continue to monitor Lamela ahead of the upcoming Premier League match against Sheffield United. The 27-year-old’s absence has come as a major blow to Tottenham fans.

Vertonghen, meanwhile, is also out. After his latest assessment, Tottenham have decided that the Belgian defender will sit out until after the international break. He also has a hamstring injury.

In more positive news, Harry Kane is back in contention after recovering from an illness. That kept him out of the Everton game. But Lamela and Vertonghen will not feature.

Here are some tweets about Lamela and Vertonghen after the official announcement.
