Tottenham fans react as Dilan Markanday scores again for Under-23 side
Dilan Markanday netted once again for Tottenham’s Under-23 side on Friday afternoon, as Spurs lost to Palace – and Spurs fans have reacted.
Markanday, 20, is being used up top this season – having previously been more of a winger. It is certainly paying off, shining in the second string.
The attacker has six goals and four assists in just eight appearances so far – including a hat-trick against Leeds during a 4-2 away win.
On Friday, Markanday made it two from two with another goal for Tottenham’s Under-23’s in a topsy-turvy match that ended 4-3 to Palace.
Palace surged into the lead in the first half, going 3-0 up thanks to goals from Jay Rich-Baghuelou, Jesuran Rak-Sakyi and Rob Street.
What are Tottenham fans saying about Markanday?
But Spurs came roaring back. Alfie Devine, the impressive midfielder signed from Wigan, scored just before the half-time whistle.
Then, Spurs found themselves level just before the hour mark thanks to two goals in two minutes. Markanday and Kallum Cesay both netting.
However, having worked so hard to draw level with Palace – the side that beat the senior team 3-0 – Spurs immediately conceded on 65 minutes.
Scott Banks scored a winner, and the scoreline remained the same. The defeat leaves Spurs in fifth place, while newly-promoted Palace in seventh.
Tottenham fans have reacted on Twitter to Markanday netting again, and many are questioning why he has not been given a first-team chance.
